Zoosk looked at over 40 million users and examined what  online dating was like this year (2017), they looked at what worked and what didn’t.

From the data here are the 10 ways to get online dating working for you according to the data from 2017.

  1. WORDS MATTER
    The words you put in your profile matter. Zoosk’s analysis found that guys who used – thoughtful, listener, polite, giving, community, give back and friendly in their profiles received 66% more messages!  Hey guys it may pay off to be a nice guy after all!
  2. UNI EDUCATION MAKES YOU MORE ATTRACTIVE!
    People who have a degree get 17% more replies to their messages.
  3. TALKING ABOUT FOOD WORKS
    Talking about food will increase the messages you receive. Gucamole is the sexiest food increasing your change of receiving a message by 144%, potatoes by 101% and chocolate by 100%, salad 97%, avocado 91%, pasta 75%, cheese 75%, cake 72%, burgers 68% and ice cream 62%. If you say you are a foodie it will lead to a 82% increase of messages and if you say you enjoy cooking it will get you 26% more messages. However mentioning fried chicken will result in 15% fewer messages
  4. WATING TOO LONG TO ANSWER MAY LEAVE YOU DATELESS
    If you don’t respond within a day, people will move on. You will get 62% more responses if you reply on the same day, waiting for 2 days your the response rate drops to 45%.We do live in an instant society nowadays.
  5. VEGETARIANS ARE NO LONGER ANNOYING
    Back in 2015 if you said you were a vegetarian in your profile you would have received 100% fewer responses. In 2017 it will get you 3% more replies but if you say veganism you will get 62% more messages!
  6. DON’T FILTER YOUR MATCHES
    If you set a filter on your profile to weed out the people you aren’t interested in it can go against you. You may think it is more efficient to be specific about education level, age, children etc but the opposite is true. The data found that people who set filters send out more message but they get 11% fewer responses than the average person.
  7. MORE PEOPLE ARE DATING OUTSIDE OF THEIR AGE
    In 2017 compared to 2016 singles are 9% more likely to like, message and have a conversation with someone 10 years older or younger than them.
  8. LUNCH BEATS DINNER
    If you ask someone out for lunch it will get you 25% more replies! Coffee, dinner or drinks will get you 13% less responses!
  9. JANUARY IS THE BEST MONTH FOR ONLINE DATING
    January is the most popular month for online dating – you will find 9% more people online in January. According to Match.com ‘peak dating time’ starts on Boxing Day and goes through to Valentines Day. Match data showed that there will be 50 million messages sent, 1 million dates  and the busiest day is 7 January!

    People who have a full-body photos get 203% more incoming messages than the average, and 33% more responses to their outgoing messages.
    People who wear sunglasses get 63% fewer messages than the average.
    People who pose with an animal in their photo get 53% fewer messages than the average.
    People who have more than one person in their photo get 42% fewer messages than the average.
    Women who have an outdoor photo get 40% fewer messages than the average.
    Men who have a selfie photo get 8% fewer messages than the average.
    55% of men say a woman’s profile photos are more important than what she says in her profile description
    People who fill out their description get 28% more messages than those who don’t.
    Men with the word entrepreneur in their profile get 16% fewer messages.
